update: 7/13/15     Hello, all! It’s me again…the most loving dog in the world! Here’s an update about my life with Mr. and Mrs. Fosterers so far:

I am now microchipped! It hurt a little bit, but now I know that if I get lost, they can find me.

I’ve also spent a bit of time at the vet lately to start my heartworm treatment.  So I won’t be able to attend any event until I get the all clear. VGSR and my fosterers are making sure I’m being taken good care of so I can go to a forever home. Don’t let this little delay stop you from meeting me! I’d still like you to find out that we’re a perfect match when I get a clean bill of health and am ready to make a family very, very happy.

7/5/2015   My name is Riptide, but Mr. and Mrs. Fosterers call me Sasha. If I don’t look like a German Shepherd, that may be because my ancestors were probably from both Germany and Belgium. My long hair is very soft and wonderful to pet, and boy, do I like me some petting! I’ll take as much lovin’ as you want to give me. I am very well behaved and also very quiet, although I’ve been known to whine a bit when Mr. or Mrs. Fosterer is sitting down and I want some attention. But don’t think I’m always that needy. In fact, I’m very submissive and look down and away if you stare at me for too long.

No one knows much about my background because I was a stray before I was rescued. But, one thing is for sure: Mr. and Mrs. Fosterer say I am very intelligent. For example, I’ve already learned to sit and come when told, and that’s after just one week! I’m still workin’ on that “lie down” thing. I’m not interested in napping, so why should I lie down? Oh yeah…that treat at the end of a lesson…I think I’ll work on that.

I guess we should talk about my blindness now. Actually, except when I bump into walls and furniture, it’s pretty hard to tell that I can’t see much. Mr. and Mrs. Fosterer know I’m very bright because once I mapped out their house and figured out where the stairs were (and that there were two sets of them to get to the basement), I knew how to climb them within a day. When I get into a new area, Mr. or Mrs. Fosterer just say, “Careful,” and I know I should take it slow.

Mr. and Mrs. Fosterer say they think I can see movement and light. (If you drop a treat on the floor, don’t worry. My ability to see the movement, my keen sense of hearing and my quick sniffin’ enable me to clean it right up for you!) I like to “look” out the windows, listen to the birds and sniff the air. I also like to go on walks, but at first, I’ll move left and right in front of you until I get comfortable. Once you say “heel,” I’ll walk right by your side…well, mostly.
