German Shepherd Dog (medium coat) : : Male (neutered) : : Adult
Major is a beautiful, 5-6 year old male GSD who was surrendered due to a foreclosure and inability to find dog friendly housing. He is a very happy boy who seems to get along with everyone. He was initially intimidated by my two females, but since he has settled in they get along swimmingly. I took the three of them to the dog park this morning to test him with new dogs, and he did wonderful. When he wasn’t just rambling around the park sniffing this and that, he’d find one dog and focus on them for the duration, trying to get them to play, tail wagging the entire time, with a big goofy grin on his face. He’s pretty spry for his age, and loves attention from people (he’s become my shadow in 24 hours). Major has a pretty low key personality in other situations. However, his previous owners mother told me that when he was a puppy he was with someone who was in a head on car collision, rendering him fearful of car rides and very whiny. However, the ride between Reston and DC yesterday and my house and the park and back today were silent. He does, however, like to stand up for almost the entire ride, and his ears do touch the ceiling of my car. Major has a strange growth on his left hind leg, which I understand will be removed when he gets his neutering surgery this week. It doesn’t appear to bother him, but it is unsightly. Overall, I think Major would do really well in low- to mid-level activity homes. He seems the type to just want to hang with his people, maybe play with a few dogs for a little while at the park, and then nap. He’s calm, sweet, and has some of the most beautiful facial markings I’ve ever seen (I continue to try and get better pictures, but he’s a little wiggly when it comes to getting his photo taken!).
