German Shepherd Dog / Mixed : : Male (neutered) : : Adult : : Medium
UPDATE 10-15-13 It is almost time!!!!! I had my last nasty shot for the ugly heart worms that were in the way of me finding my forever home. After 30 more days of medication and confinement (ugh!), I will be neutered. I really don’t know what that means, but I do know that after being neutered, I will be good to go. It has been a rough time for me as I have had 30 days with 30 days to go of no play, leash walks only , and “crate living”. It hasn’t been easy because I am such an active guy, but my foster mom let’s me roam with her when she is home. I just lay by her side where ever she is – that is being quiet. My foster sister and brother did not understand at first why I would not play with them, or why I was living in a crate in the family room. But all of this will be in my past in no time, and Thanksgiving will be truly a time to give thanks. I hate a crate – I guess it brings back bad memories of my life as a stray and then shelter living. When I was sprung from the shelter, I was under 60 pounds and my fur and back were pretty much flea infested. You should see me know – I am a handsome boy so says my foster mom and vet. Even after my shots and spending the day at the vet in a crate under observation, I still give my doctor kisses when she hugs me as I am leaving. She tells me I am one of the sweetest dogs she has ever met. I am a big lovable 2 year old GSD mix. I look just like a GSD except for my ears and the curl in my tail. I love everyone, big and small and get along with every dog I meet. I lived with a cat for a while and while in the shelter my trip to the cat room scared me so I can tolerate those little critters, but I am not obsessed with them. I love to run and cannot wait to get back to that, but when I am in the house I enjoy just being where my family is. I sound perfect right???? Well I have one bad habit that my foster mom is working on --- I am a bolter when given the chance. So we approach open doors with my foster mom holding my collar, and I get to do my running in the backyard with my foster brother and sister. I love to join the chase of those squirrels. I confess, it’s just hard to break a bad habit. I have learned to “stay” when told to, but it is hard and I cannot promise to do it every time so adopters should take that into account. A fence and activity or leashed walks/runs seem to be in my future. Everyone meet Ziggy. Ziggy came to VGSR as a stray. He was found in Dinwiddy Co. When I picked up Ziggy, he was severely under weight. He has put on about 5 LBS in the 3 weeks that I have had him. I took him in to be neutered, and they could not do so due to being Heart Worm positive. Its considered to be very minor, and he is currently undergoing treatment, and will only require 2 injections in another 2 weeks. Other than that he is very healthy. Now on to the good part.
