Maya is a spayed female, almost four years old, new to the rescue (June 2013). More info to come, but what we do know so far is that she is gentle, compliant, and loves to be with people. She has lived with dogs and is being evaluated with cats — she does respond easily to a verbal command to distract her from them but will chase if they run — we are working on this & so far she responds well with me there.

She walks beautifully on a leash, loves car rides, appears to have impeccable house manners, is low-key, gentle, eager to please, & loving. She is also a picky eater (kibble needs canned food or meat broth, mom!), and quietly dismantled a crate and then waited calmly without disturbing a thing in the house. I am quite sure she said, "I am a good girl, I am!" And she truly is. She also leaped over a baby gate in order to come find me when I took too long upstairs. :) (The gate is for the cats’ comfort & safety.) She does not get on the furniture unless invited & is content to sit at your feet or across the room for hours (but with you in sight, moving from room to room if necessary; definitely a velcro dog!). She is very tender-hearted, easily corrected, and needs a family or person who can spend time with her and gently encourage her to be a dog and know she is loved! So far, she has shown no interest in toys, chew bones, or a tennis ball, but she is getting over an upper respiratory infection, so we will see what comes to light as she continues to recover and regains more energy.

I have not observed her with children yet, but she has been gentle and tolerant, so a problem is not expected at this point. Maya is a quiet girl (I’ve yet to hear her bark) who needs gentleness and someone to love...someone kind who has time for her (though she is very undemanding) and will remember how gently direction should be given. She could be easily overlooked in the presence of a more outgoing dog & may need to be sought out to enjoy things more. She is so loving, obedient, and eager to please. Whoever adopts her will have a real treasure, indeed.

Maya will not be released for adoption until completely recovered from her upper resp. infection, but this is not expected to be a problem nor long in coming.

More to come on this sweet girl!
