Zeus was picked up with his best friend a potbellied pig. The pig was adopted and Zeus was left heartbroken. After coming into the rescue we found he has pannus, an eye condition that will have to be treated for the rest of his life. He has lost about 15 to 20 percent of his vision, mostly in the lower region. This hardly affects him, though he does have trouble locating toys on the ground. He is playful and active, enjoying long walks and hikes in the woods. His condition will need constant management or he
could lose the rest of his vision. This would most likely be regular checkups with a specialist and possibly daily eye drops. He also should avoid direct sunlight or wear sunglasses.
Zeus is a sweet mellow boy who likes to goof around and snuggle. He sleeps next to me all night in the bed and lets me move him around while he is sleeping. He rides great in the car and is pretty quiet all around. He also is very friendly and easy going. Everyone he meets is a friend and he wants to say hi to everyone. He is easy to get along with, though he could use some more training. I don’t think he was ever walked on a leash. He is a Velcro dog who follows you around the house and wants to sit in your lap. But outside, Zeus is used to roaming, we are not sure he will stick around if left out unsupervised.
Zeus is also being treated for itchy skin and ear infections. We still are not sure about the cause, he will most likely need a special diet and supplements. He has a beautiful long thick coat, possibly some Belgium Shepherd in there? Zeus would make a great companion dog for someone who is up for giving some extra care in return for lots of love and devotion.
We have not tested him out with cats or kids yet. I’m guessing that he will be great with both, he is very sweet. However, I have had some hard nips during play, so I’m wary of him being unsupervised with kids. He might be a
little mouthy, something that can be easily corrected. He corrects very easily. In the few weeks that he has been with us he has learned to use a gentle leader and walk nicely on leash. We are working on getting him used to wearing sunglasses.
