This sweet beautiful girl is Raven. Raven’s story is not unique but even after years rescuing and fostering it still breaks my heart and angers me. Raven's previous owner of 6 years, bred her and shortly after her puppies were old enough to be taken from her, dumped her in an overcrowded shelter. Raven arrived in the shelter severely underweight with an eye infection and mange. The shelter felt Raven needed a 2nd chance and since they were full they contacted VGSR. In the couple weeks at the shelter, Raven put on a few pounds, and in her very short time with us, is eating very well and should be putting on more weight in no time. We are also working to get rid of her infection, mange, and hopefully grow some of her missing fur back. Through all the recent change she has gone through, and even with the pain and discomfort she has been in, Raven has remained so incredibly sweet and loving. She has not had much training but she wants nothing more than to please her humans. She is a typical velcro GSD and follows you everywhere you go. Since she has been in some pain and discomfort we think her true personality is still coming out but from what we have seen so far, she is a great dog. She rides well in a car, is very well behaved at the vet, is calm and patient when being bathed, and just really wants to be loved. In her foster home she is living with 3 other GSDs. She does well with them but they have not been very interested in playing with her since she is not spayed yet (she smells funny to them). Her previous owner told the shelter that she was only "ok" with small dogs and was not good with cats. However she supposedly lived with children between the ages of 7-9 and did wonderfully with them.

Update: Raven has now recovered from mange and her eye infections. She has also gained some weight and has been spayed. The patches of missing fur from the mange are growing back real nice. We can tell she is feeling so much better as she has so much more energy and her personality has really come out. She is a fun loving dog and is super sweet and friendly. She loves walks and playing in the yard and then can come inside and be calm and relaxed. Raven loves chewing on bones and really loves stuffed dog toys. She mostly loves carrying the stuffed animals around but sometimes she will start to chew on them. Raven does very well with other dogs but she can be a bit protective of her bones and stuffed toys around other dogs occasionally but so far has never shown to be protective of them with my husband or me. She also does not back down to other dominant dogs that try to be dominant over her however she is best friends with my two male GSDs who do not try to be dominant over her. Raven is a typical Velcro GSD and just loves to be with her humans. She follows you everywhere you go and doesn’t like you to be out of sight for long however does okay when you have to leave to go to work or run errands. Overall, Raven will really make someone a wonderful loving companion.
