Kira is doing great! She’s recovered from pneumonia, fleas and related skin infection, ear infection, and has been treated for Lyme. She’s on daily pain medication for her orthopedic challenges, none of which stop her from climbing stairs and loving walks. Kira gets along well with everyone we have encountered. She enthusiastically greets other dogs, ignores cats, and loves any human that will rub her belly. Kira appears to have a special relationship with deer, a few of whom have approached and closely followed Kira and I on walks. Kira will begin appearing at Northern Virginia adoption days in August. Kira is a gentle senior girl, who was brought into the rescue with her pre-rescue housemate, Juliett. As as GSD/Chow mix, she is small in stature but big on cuteness, and is perhaps "the cotton ball" of dogs. It takes very little to keep Kira content -- just sleep at her master’s feet and good walks. Kira is hard-of-hearing, but hears loud sounds and responds to guidance from pointing and gesture. She gets along well with dogs, cats and everyone she’s yet encountered. Kira is good company and would do well in a home with senior citizens, or older children who would be respectful of Kira’s age and wisdom. Kira came into VGSR with pneumonia, Lyme disease, fleas, a skin infection from the fleas, ear infections, a bullet lodged behind one of her knees, and one very bad hip. Once she is healed from the more immediate health concerns, Kira may be a candidate for a new hip. Please consider sponsoring Kira! She is a sweet dog, who’s had a rough life
