This handsome guy is Hunter and he has quite a story to tell. He lived in his owners' backyard for most of his life, pretty much left to fend for himself with only another little dog to keep him company. He has evidence of a former flea allergic reaction and his teeth are ground down like he was chewing on metal or maybe sticks for entertainment. After his owners decided they didn't want him anymore, they left him on the side of a busy road where he was picked up by animal control. They found out who he belonged to and got them to sign him over to their custody. He stayed at animal control for a while until VGSR found him. Then, when VGSR took him to get neutered, they discovered that he has heartworms. Fortunately it seems to be a very mild infestation and we are hoping to start treatment soon. Amazingly through all of this Hunter has had nothing but a positive attitude. He always seems to have a smile on his face. He is so loving and affectionate and craves human attention. He is a bit of a goof ball and is always finding ways to make us laugh. He loves tennis balls and will play fetch with himself by kicking one and going to get it. He gets along well with our other dogs, and when we took him to one of the adoption events he seemed to do very well with children. He just sat there like a gentleman and let them pet him. He is very smart and knows basic commands like "sit" and "down". He is very eager to please so training him is not difficult, and he is also food motivated. He craves human companionship so much it might be best for him to go to a home where he would be the only dog as jealousy could potentially become an issue.
