Hi, my name is Rex! Im an energetic and friendly pup, and the most handsome boy on the block. Unfortunately, my former owner had too many dogs, and decided to leave me at the Orange Co. Shelter because I was the youngest. Boy, what fun Im having in my new Foster Home though!! Just this morning, I taught the other dog here how to move those pesky living room couches around so we could have more room to play. My Foster Mom sure thought our redecorating idea was funny! Im scheduled to be neutered on Tuesday, and I gotta admit, Im not very excited about that. My foster mom says it will help me be a little friendlier with some of the other dogs at the park. Im in great health, and just need to gain a bit of weight because all my puppy energy has kept my physique too trim. Not only am I gorgeous, but I am a smart boy too (although I do need a little work on my basic manners and commands). My first day in my new foster home, I learned how to unlock the storm door and open the latch. I didnt want to bug anyone to take me for a walk, so I took myself! I guess they didnt like that idea because since then, the big door is kept closed. Little do they know, Ive been practicing turning the knob around-and-around with my big nose. Ive also learned to open the mail slot which I think is so much fun. It wont be long until I will have this whole door thing completely figured out! They keep telling me I need a J-O-B and that my Forever Home will need to teach me obedience or enroll me in classes and make sure I have some activity or work to do. Im too smart (and did I mention good-looking?) to just lie around the house all day and eat bon-bons and watch TV. Oh, and another thing - Im very good on a leash! Sothe bottom line is, Im the nicest and most handsome dog in the world. I can tolerate even the brattiest children, but would probably be a little too unruly for a house with small children. I need something to do, and would prefer to stick right with you. I get a bit upset when left alone (you better not call me a big baby though!). I cant wait to meet my new family and give them all the love in the world! Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
