Hi ! I m Rocky, a 10-month-old male, Black/Tan, full-GSD puppy. My foster dad was nice enough to pull me from the shelter at the 11th hour. I just dont understand why I was given up. I love people. I am the best kisser there is. Dad says my middle name is velcro cause I hang around him and mom every minute. Previously, I didnt get much attention, if any. I am also busy, very busy. Have to be involved in everything, playing and horsing around. Hey Im just a pup! My first day coming home I enjoyed the car ride quickly easing into my navigator role between the seats. Mom and dad started teaching me sits, stays, comes and lie downs. No big deal, sure is an easy way to get them to feed me. I did gobble my meals down too fast, but am learning to graze feed now. I quickly learned where to do my business in the yard. They stuck me in this cage to sleep at night, but settled down after a little complaining. I do sleep for a nice long time, quietly. Good thing mom and dad have a yard, cause I sure love to run. Got a bath the next day, loved it, rub-a-dub in the tub. My first open house I met a lot of dogs and people, what a party. Many kids came up to me too. Hey I dont care if you are 2 or 6 feet tall, just pet me and rub my belly. Met my first cat, cool looking thing. I think she liked me too. My foster sister and brother GSD like me too. They do tire out quickly. Guess they didnt get the EverReady battery. Mom says I need to improve my leash manners, but hey, what do you want for 72 hours? Seriously, Rocky is a lovable, sweet, extremely smart, active GSD that needs finishing school. He is eager to please and will mature into a fantastic dog. For a family with the time and a high energy, puppy, male dog training experience, Rocky is a rare find. Questions to csealy@cox.net

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $200.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
