Meet Mr Pete 6885, or as we called him when he came to us, Stinky Pete. First off, I promise you, he’s at least 3 times cuter in person than in his photos and thankfully not as stinky as he was. Pete is underweight at about 48lbs right now. He still needs to gain at least 10-15lbs. He is an absolute sweetheart and for a Shepherd, medium energy at most. We estimate he’s at least 40% floof He was a stray at large in the area and was able to be caught via a trap after almost a week. Its clear he was neglected because everything has seemed to be new to him. He was heavily matted as well and was shaved where needed when he was neutered. As a typical shepherd does, he barks when he’s uncertain and he has a big bark. The people on the TV were very scary for a few days. He is crate trained and is very easy to crate. He will do best with another dog because he does seem to enjoy playing but he also likes to snuggle on the couch with his humans so he might be ok as an only dog as long as he gets playdates with other dogs to keep learning social skills. He needs continued exposure to new things. He’s learning what toys are and will play fetch a little. He does get along with other dogs, male and female. He needs proper introductions to new people because, although he wouldn’t hurt a fly, he does charge and bark at strangers in the house and outside the fence which is scary to new people. Pete would probably do best with older kids. He will require a 6ft fence. Pete is located in Newport News, VA.
