11.11.22 We have had Nala for 1 week now, she has been to 2 VGSR events and had alot of interaction with both people and other dogs. Like most young pups, she is excitable when meeting people and we are working on not jumping. When meeting other dogs, she needs to learn that jumping and barking are not appropriate behaviors, although the barking is because she is excited and not aggressive.
At the house she quickly warmed up to our 2 year old and 12.5 year old foster brother and sister. She is very curious about the our outdoor cats, and will chase if they run....but is not aggressive towards them if they stand their ground. She readily calls off the kitties, and we are continuing to work with her with the cats. She is crate trained when we leave the house, but has full run of the house when we are home.
She stays close to her people in the house, and is very affectionate, especially in the evenings when the day is done...she likes her belly rubs.
She is quick to learn and we are working on leash manners and refining basic commands. She has a vet appointment on Nov 16th for spaying and will be available for adoption after she recovers.
12/5/22 Nala barely missed a beat after her spay surgery, she does need a good dose of daily physical and mental stimulation to keep her occupied, after that she settles nicely in her crate or loose in the house.
Her ideal adopting family would have a large yard, and be very active outdoors (hiking/running). She does have a keen interest in squirrels which requires correction/redirection when on the leash. She bonds quickly with her family and will follow you around the house/yard. Like all Shepherds , she would benefit greatly from taking a basic obedient course with her adopted family to help with the bonding process, and establish consistent leadership to enable her to blossom into a wonderful family companion.
Approved adopters can contact me at rodschlemm@gmail.com to arrange a meet and greet or to answer any additional questions you may have.
