German Shepherd Dog / Mixed (medium coat) : : Female (not spayed) : : Baby
Rhea and her sisters came into VGSR from an outdoor/wild situation where they were not discovered and rescued until they were around 3 months old. The puppies had never interacted with humans before, and they're still learning to trust people. Potential adopters should understand that they are still very new to humans and are working through that uncertainty a little more every day! Adjusting to their new humans and home will likely take some extra time for these sweet babies, but the reward will absolutely be worth it! Rhea entered her life as a rescue reluctantly -- perhaps the most reluctant of the trio (Nyx, Io, and Rhea!) -- and she still hasn't quite made up her mind about what it is she really wants. Pets?Yes, but also no. Play? Yes! And also, no, too scary. Treats? Yes, and she will climb on a lap to get some! Lap time? No, thank you, too scary! But is she afraid? Not at all! In fact, this brave pupper is ready to bark, jump, play, and run! Except for if you move too fast--big spook!
It is clearer every day that Rhea is a people dog. She recently discovered kids for the first time when foster mom's family visited, and she has been completely taken by the little ones. While still nervous of them and keeping a safe distance to run if she needs to, we have watched how focused she is on the kids. She loves watching them play and ALMOST can't resist joining. When little 3 year old was having a hard day and cried on the couch, Rhea crept over to investigate and sniff at him with concern, looking very much as though she wanted to help. We think that she is very drawn to spend time around the humans and wants deeply to befriend them, once she can get past her fear. As she adjusts more and more, we can see how happy and human-focused Rhea is going to be. We would love to find a family to love on her, and we are eager to stress that we think she'll be wonderful with kids if that's her path! She loves to sit nearby the humans when she's resting. She loves to jump up onto the couch and take her naps or chew on her toys. She will make someone a great cuddle buddy once she gets comfortable with people. Rhea will need her rabies and booster in mid-April. Spay is required at 6 months. Those interested in more information about Rhea can contact her foster at shiapep@gmail.com!
