German Shepherd Dog (short coat) : : Female : : Adult
Update: 5/17/19 We’ve had Mili now for about 3 weeks and it is incredible how far she’s come since we first brought her home. She doesn’t require as much exercise as I had initially thought; she loves her morning runs with me and playing in the back yard with my puppy, but she’s not nearly as anxious and doesn’t have the pent-up nervous energy she once had. She’s able to be crated while I’m at work. She’s timid at first around new males but is quick to warm up. She really is an incredibly smart, sweet gal. We love her so much. We saw an ophthalmologist and while she has no sight in her left eye, it is the result of trauma rather than disease. She’s not in pain or uncomfortable and doesn’t need surgery or medications. She is not slowed down at all by this deficit and she even loves fetching tennis balls! Her right eye is totally fine. The vet said she’s about 18 months-2 years, is up to date on all her shots, heartworm negative but a bit on the thin side. We don’t know if she’s been spayed. She does not pull on the leash and walks gently by my side. She knows how to “sit” and “down”—we go to training classes once/week and in a few classes has picked up commands faster than my puppy who has been to three rounds of 8 classes each! She takes treats gently, doesn’t bark in the house, and will not pull, bark or lunge at dogs walking by. She will startle, though, if a bike or jogger comes up from behind on her blind side. She doesn’t like small kids, probably because of their unpredictability. If older (I’d say over 10 years old) kids want to pet her on our walks, she is fine with that and I recommend she go to a household with older kids. If you’re looking for an incredibly smart, sweet and loyal best friend and have a bit of patience while she warms up to you and her new environment, I’d love for you to meet sweet Milli! 4/21/19 Hi! I’m Mili! I’m a high-energy purebred 2-year-old (approximate) GSD. I was found as a stray and sprung out of the shelter by VGSR. I’m now with my foster mom and two foster brothers and I am SO HAPPY! I LOVE running around the yard. I could run around the yard all day! I love being chased and chasing my foster brothers. When they get tired, I get disappointed because I could chase them forever! That’s when my foster mom picks up the tennis ball and we keep going! I really want a home with a big yard and another dog so I can play! I also like running with my foster mom on her morning runs. I’m a bit shy with men at first but after I know they’re okay everything is fine. I also really like to play with toys, especially stuffed animals. My foster mom says I need to work on my leash skills but I just want to run and not be on a leash! I am working on my basic commands and crate training. I’m also blind in one eye. We’re not sure why but we’re going to see a doctor about that on 4/28 and I’ll post an update here. It sure doesn’t slow me down though! Do you have a big yard, a dog of your own who needs a 4-legged friend, and want to help me with my manners? I’d be your perfect companion and best friend for life!
