Hendrix is very affectionate and eager to please. He will be your buddy, loving to get affection, being brushed and shows no dislike of being touched. He is great about using the bathroom outside only and in specific areas and behaves exceptionally well in a crate. Hendrix knows basic obedience commands like "come", "sit", "down", and "place" and loves playing fetch with a ball. He's also pretty skilled at catching a ball mid-air. With his energy and desire to play you would think he's still a puppy. He is also a very strong 87 lbs. While Hendrix is really great about walking right next to you on a leash, he also has a pretty intense prey-drive and will lunge with all 87 lbs towards other dogs when in sight, especially once they walk away. With committed training, this can be controlled. I'd recommend the following article to learn more about that (https://journeydogtraining.com/how-to-control-dogs-with-high-prey-drive/). He has a great guard-dog attitude at home with any noises outside, delivering a very strong series of barks at anything unusual that he hears. This may be exactly what some people are looking for, however I would still recommend training to make sure he can "turn it off" on command. At this point, he is reluctant to turn it off and will allow himself to get amped up, which can be harder to bring him back down from. We're working on training techniques and lots of fun play to give him alternate outlets for his energy.
Due to his strong prey drive and the state of his current training, he either needs a 6-foot fence or in-person monitoring while outside and a 3-foot fence.
Hendrix has been well cared for by the same owner since a puppy and has the medical records to show for it. Records indicate he has a history of irritated scratching, but its not severe enough to cause any abrasions or hair loss. His previous vet recommended that he try a fish and sweet potato diet to help with the itchiness, so I'm recommending awareness of a special diet that is required. I have also included extra oils in his diet to see if there are any improvements. His diet may need to be continually adjusted and regulated in order to keep his scratching under control.
Check out the cute video of him discovering the scratch in some old school hip-hop.
