110/29/17 UPDATE Pungo is almost done with his heartworm treatments! He's doing great, gaining weight and energy. His last treatment is scheduled for the week of Thanksgiving, so he should be all clear to join his new family by December 1! He's proven himself to be very smart (he figured out how to use his teeth to open the food container), and he very much likes being with his "people". While my other dogs are hanging out in other parts of the house, Pungo is consistently laying quietly within about 2 feet of me at all times - a bit tricky while I'm showering, but exhibiting all the loyalty of the GSD breed. See his new his pictures just lounging around in my office. He's likely to do best as part of a family where he can continue hanging out with someone for the majority of the day. We had a "cat" date this past Friday; Pungo was generally disinterested, but did poke one of the cats with his nose (he has no concept of personal space) resulting in his getting his nose swatted - which he backed away from in a hurry. 

9/22/17 Pungo has successfully completed the first of a series of 3 treatments for heartworms. He did great, but has to keep quiet until his treatments are all done. His prognosis is still very good!

8/22/17 AVAILABLE AROUND THANKSGIVING PENDING COMPLETION OF MEDICAL TREATMENT - Pungo is a beautiful, friendly male GSD. He is socializing nicely with other dogs - both small and large, respectful of cats, and good with kids (although he did want to lick the crumbs off the face of my neighbor's toddler).  He's quietly confident and a pleasure to have around. He came to VGSR when his elderly owner was no longer able to care for him. He's a little underweight right now, so his long lanky frame make him look like a 'wolf', but he's such a gentleman that he can eat right next to his foster sisters without any issues! Pungo is being actively treated for heartworms, so he can't yet go to his forever home. Current estimates from the vet are that he'll be in great shape in about 3 months (around Thanksgiving). Take a peek at his 'Good Boy' manners at his recent vet visit. We will keep you posted on his progress!
