Currently under heart worm treatment and will be available for adoption in late summer.

My name is Mike and I am a petite German Shepherd, about 2 years old.  However what I lack in size I make up for with personality and smarts.  I have been with my new foster family for a little over a week but I seem to be fitting in very well.

I LOVE people because that means that I will get more attention.  I crave (read demand) attention which has created a few little behavior issues that my foster folks are working with me to control.

I walk well on a leash and know some basic commands but I try to ignore them whenever it is inconvenient for me to behave.  I have something called heartworm that I am being treated for.  My X-rays and blood work all look good so I am told I will get through the treatment well but will then have to do something my foster dad calls THE operation.

The worst part of all this is I have to be quiet and not play for 2 months, which will be a real trial because I love to play with my GSD foster sister.  For only a week together we get along pretty well.  My foster brother is a Chihuahua mix who gets worried about getting trampled when my foster sister and I play.  For the most part I just ignore him because he is too small to play with.

Because of my little behavior issues, I would not do well with small children but maybe while I am recovering, my foster folks will get me to mind better.  We'll see.  Whoever is lucky enough to adopt me will need to be a strong leader and continue my training so I don't get into trouble again like I do now.

I will make an excellent companion and friend once I get through my medical issues and learn to control myself.  Will let you know when I am medically cleared and ready for my furever home.

Approved adopters may contact me at jwdespain3@cox.net  to see how my medical condition is coming along or just to wish me well or if you have any questions about what a great dog I am.
