07/12/2014: Heidi is a four and a half year old GSD. Two years ago she tested positive for heartworms and we thought she would need treatment, but she tests negative now. She is good with cats, and yearns to play with them. She readily gives her favorite toy to my cat to solicit playtime.

She loves to go on long walks and really enjoys hikes. She is great with carrying a doggie backpack and would enjoy an active lifestyle. She has two favorite games in the whole wide world: playing fetch with her huge red bouncy ball and soccer. She is a world-class goalie!

She knows sit, stay, lay down, come, she waits when told, she brings a toy on command, and is learning how to shake her paw. She is getting refreshers on these commands, leash walking, heel, and she is learning to “leave it”. She has learned to wait at doors and stairs for people to pass first. She is also finding the joy in a good game of ‘find it’.

Heidi is house broken so she can relax on the couch when I go out. Although in a new home, she may need some initial training to reestablish housebreaking rules. She is intelligent and willing to learn-- I could reestablish the house rules within a week. Heidi gets overstimulated at adoption events due to the crowd of dogs and humans. This leads to barking and nervous behavior. She is attending adoption events each week for short periods so that she can learn to feel comfortable in a crowd.

Heidi needs a forever home that will give her direction, guidance and plenty of attention. Ideally, she would like to be the only dog in the home. Heidi has been through quite a bit of change and adapted readily, but it’s time for this girl to settle down. She loves to be with her family once there is trust and a bond established.
