Phoenix is a female GSD mix. She is a small girl weighing 40 pounds and looks a lot like a small Dutch Shepherd. Phoenix started out at Mattie, a dog at the Roanoke VA pound who had a broken femoral head and needed immediate surgery. FHO surgery is expensive and VGSR had to get approval for the surgery. At the same time she was approved for surgery, a local rescue pulled her because a donor from MA came forward to pay all the surgical expenses. So Mattie went to their vet and became Phoenix. After her surgery was completed, she was transferred to VGSR and has been with a post-surgical temporary foster home in Roanoke, VA. Her leg is healing wonderfully and Phoenix has been released and is now ready to go to her foster home so she can prepare for her forever home and a new healthy life. She is a little dog full of life and energy. Phoenix went to her first adoption event and was wonderful with everyone she met. She was a little snippy with some strange dogs and expresses it with a click of her mouth near the dog’s face. This is something that has been corrected with success. With other dogs, she is just fine. Cats are unknown but with her energy level, caution should be used. She was fine with children. This little girl craves attention and loves affection. She is allowed to exercise as much as she wants and there is no problem with that. Phoenix is very high energy and will need walks and a fenced yard to expend some of that energy to be able to focus on being a good family member. Update 11-5-13 Phoenix has turned in to such a precious girl. She loves kids and dogs, not sure about cats as I don’t have any. She is great with kids of all ages and LOVES people and to be petted. She is a dog that looks up to you and wants to please. She is obedient, comes when she is called and is working on sit. A super special girl after going thru her ordeal of being hit by a car, going thru surgery and then to a foster. Super sweet thru ALL of that and still loves. That is resilience. She is great in the car, taking a bath and just an all around good girl!
