Louise (currently being called Lucy) is a white GSD who is only 7 months old. I was told that she has the ability to melt your heart, and that statement is 100% true. Upon first meeting this little girl she will usually lie on your feet and roll over on her back. She is such a sweetheart that it is hard to believe someone gave her (and her twin sister) up. It appears that she came to the shelter with very little training, but she is learning very quickly how adapt to living in a home. We are still working on her potty training, but she is becoming more and more comfortable with going outside. With a dog this cute and with this much personality, it is hard to discipline her when she has an accident. Every day Lucy is becoming more and more open and each day her real personality is showing. When she first arrived at her foster house she was VERY timid. Upon meeting her foster brother, Bigsby, (a 1-year-old Boxer), she was very shy and always staying next to Daddy. But after a few hours of getting to know each other, they immediately began playing happily. Most of the day she is either playing hide Foster Daddys shoes or she is playing with her brothers toys. Though at night she will be the first person to call it a night. She does VERY well in her crate, and I believe she already finds it her quiet comfort home. She does very well on the leash; no pulling at all. She is very curious about her surroundings. On walks, she is constantly looking around and smelling everything. She loves playing with her foster brother Bigsby (the 1-year-old Boxer). Although she gets along great with her foster brother, Lucy needs to be more socialized. Because of this lack of socialization, Lucy will not be appearing at adoption days. Lucy is quickly learning her basic commands. She has already mastered "sit" and we are working on others; she is very treat-motivated. VGSR can only adopt dogs out in the Virginia/Maryland/DC area, no exceptions.

Although donations of all types are needed, our primary need is foster homes for our lovely dogs while they wait for their new family to find them. Fostering is an extremely rewarding experience. Vet care is paid for by our rescue, and we can even provide you with food. All YOU need to add is love and security.

The adoption process starts with the applicant filling out the adoption application. This can happen at any time during the process, before or after having met a GSD that might be the ideal companion. (It's an advantage to have a pre-approved application on file with VGSR. It should be stressed here that being pre-approved does not mean that any potential adopter can select any available dog at will and take that dog home immediately. VGSR will exercise its best judgement as to which GSD will be the best match for that specific adopter based on a number of qualifying criteria. Many GSDs that come to us are matched up with their new people very quickly because their people have been pre-approved.) The applicant then submits the application form with a non-refundable $10.00 processing fee. VGSR reviews the application, then schedules an interview and home visit during which a number of questions are asked and the home is reviewed to be sure there is a contained/safe yard, and to meet the family involved. Once the application is approved, the applicant is asked to submit a $250.00 donation to VGSR, and the adoption is completed.
