Please meet the beautiful and sweet Miss Abby ...

See below for my contact info.

01/09/2023: She has continued to do great with the kitties, lots of nose touching and sniffing. Quick to back away if there is any hiss or meow. You can see her eyes have become alive again. Her earlier photos she looks so sad but her eyes have started to sparkle, tail wags tons more, her coat is starting to thicken and shine up, and she is now seeking out attention. She is great at the door - no running out, LOVES being outside, easy to walk (for a GSD) but still can give a strong pull if really interested in something, etc. She has been one of the easiest pups we've had.

01/08/2023: Happy New Year everyone.  Abby is really starting to settle in to our home which is great. That said, she is still very skittish around strangers. We have found that she will benefit from a companion dog or two that will help make her feel more secure.  She is cautious with dogs initially but once intros have been done she loves to play. So the ideal home would have at least one if not two other dogs.

12/23/2022:  The switch has been flipped! So happy, little Abby is showing who she is. She is now just a happy girl and comes running and bouncing to say hello and get some head scratches. Outside she has started coming when called and not playing chase with is lovely. She is really turning into a wonderful girl who wants to please. So very proud of her. She definitely understand "no" and "ahhahh" and listens so well.

12/20/2022:  We have Miss Abby for just over two weeks now and she has started to relax and settle in.  She is one of the first to greet me in the morning and is all tail wags and has started doing head buts to get extra attention and scratches.  We took her for a follow-up with the vet yesterday and she did amazing. While not positive about her surroundings, with a little patience and coaxing she went in on her own and had no issues with the vets touching her all over or getting a shot.  The car ride over was easy too. She hopped in, sniffed out the window an bit then settled down for the ride. I am happy to say she has put on some weight and is almost at her ideal - way to go Abby.  She is a pleaser. If she knows she shouldn't do something, a simple no, she listens nicely. No counter surfing, no sitting on the couch, no running out the door, no guarding of the toys or food bowl, no going upstairs, and the most important no eating the kitties.  We are starting to work on her command training but have been mainly focusing on gaining her trust. She will sit and wait for her food bowl and leave the others bowls alone until they are done then she is happy to help clean them up. She doesn't have a good recall yet - outside means playtime and chase to her so that will be something that needs work. She would be great in a home with another dog or two as I think they would help her confidence and give her a playmate - especially if they played like a GSD.  She really enjoys being chased and playing rough with the resident GSD (a 3 year old, female). She will make a wonderful family dog but will need a bit of patience to allow her to settle in.

12/08/2022:     Miss Abby has had a tough start in life. it appears she was likely part of a backyard breeder's group of dogs. Five (1 male, 4 females) had all been dumped and found their way to an overcrowded, rural shelter. Abby is the youngest of the group and is about 1-2 years old and appears to have had at least one litter of pups.   She is weary of strangers and is very watchful of everything around her.  She needs to put on some weight and has some dry/itchy skin.  We'll be working on both of these.  She has been with us since Saturday 12/3/2022 and is already starting to let down her guard and follow me around. She'll even cautiously approach for some head scratches and I am rewarded with a few tail wags. She loves running around in the yard and playing with the resident GSD.  It seems as though she will make a great family dog but will need time to bond with her adoptive family and will need training. I think she is still in shock over everything that has happened to her but her eyes are starting to look a bit happier.

•     Cats  - She does pretty good with ours (we have six, all with different personalities and ages). I think ours may be the first she has been around. She is curious but recognizes the cats are in charge and will quickly back away if the cat hisses or just looks at her funny.

•    Crate - You need to coax her in at night but will go inside to sleep on her own during the day. We currently let her stay in the laundry room with the other pups.

•    Dogs - She gets along with the dogs in the house and loves playing with the resident GSD - check the videos. She loves to run and jump. Note, the are 4 other dogs (not including Abby) all female and ranging in age from 3 to 12 yo.

•    Exercise -  She'll need a place to really run, explore, and patrol. She's not going to chase a ball so you'll need to take her for walks and an easy jog. Ideally would be another pup she can run and play with.

•    Housebroken - Amazing so far. No messes inside nor in her crate. Woowhooo!

•    Adults - Nervous and cautious. Outside she is in play mode and stays just out of reach. Seems to want to play tag. Inside she was cautious at first but over the couple weeks comes right up with tail wagging looking for a few scratches. I can handle her all over no issue.

•     Kids - She is a bit skittish. She has met a little boy and little girl. She seemed curious about the girl and more cautious of the boy but he was also nervous around her so that may had had an impact

•    Training - None. She is starting to understand sit - inside but not outside. So attending training courses will be a requirement.
