Other Available Dogs and Owner Referrals

Updated on Friday, 07/03/2009

The dogs listed here are available directly from individuals or through other area rescue groups. VGSR recommends that interested persons contact those individuals or groups directly about these animals. In cases where no contact information is listed on this page, please contact VGSR for referral information at one of the addresses shown below. VGSR has not evaluated these animals and assumes no responsibility for the accuracy of the information provided. VGSR is providing these announcements as a service to others in the hope that these dogs may find good, loving homes.

We request that those individuals and rescues that list dogs here inform us when those dogs listed have been adopted so we all can concentrate on finding homes for dogs still looking for their "forever homes".

Atticus

Atticus is very sweet and endearing, wanting to be in contact with humans or dogs all the time. He loves to play, although at this time is restricted to lying on the living room floor wrestling. Atticus appears outgoing, but is in fact very timid. He will cower, run and/or urinate at any sudden movement or loud noise and is terrified of vacuum cleaners, raised voices and even spray bottles (makes spot cleaning the carpet fun). I am working on gradually desensitizing him, but it will be a long process. Additionally, while Atticus can hold his bladder, he is not as reliable as my other dogs - he hasn't yet learnt to tell me he needs to go out. Sometimes he will urinate or defecate in his crate (he loves his crate) or when he gets stressed or excited. I used to have to wash and clean floors daily, now we're at 2 - 3 times a week, so we are making progress, but accidents still happen. The biggest thing I have to watch with Atticus is his mouth. He is restricted to short leash walks, yet still manages to eat all sorts of things without me seeing! From time to time he vomits plastic, twigs, leaves etc. and his bedding has huge holes where he is gradually chewing it. For more information on Atticus, e-mail jkleices@ncsu.edu.

Bear

Bear is probably about 2-3 years old. He's a neutered male who spent the first years of his life living on a chain in West Virginia. In spite of the lack of human contact and interaction, Bear is a very friendly, sociable guy. He's good with other dogs, but not with cats. He needs to gain some weight, but he's a very handsome dog, with a big, good looking head and a nice Rottweiler smile. An adult household with a fenced yard is preferred. Prior Rottie experience is preferred above everything else, but even if you are new to the breed, Bear is definitely worth looking at. He's a fairly "easy" dog. You can contact Bear's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions.

Bella

My name is Bella, aka Bells, Belly. I'm 7 1/2 months old. I recently moved to Virginia from Arizona with my family. They saved me when I was six weeks old and fell in love with me. They think I look like a kangaroo. My family named me Bella because of my "eyeliner" and beauty marks on each side of my face. They have a 3-year-old and 1-year-old and I love them so much. We had a lot of fun in Arizona, we had a lot of land for me to protect and a big yard where I could play all day long! When my family moved here they started putting me on the leash, and although I don't mind it, I'd rather run free. My family's home doesn't have a yard and that is something I really need. They take me to a fenced in area and let me off my leash and I LOVE it! I play fetch and run myself out. I prefer a family that doesn't have any other pets, I'm very protective and am constantly on guard. Protecting my loved ones is my sole mission and my family thinks I would make a fantastic working dog. I learn very quickly and am extremely lovable. I am fully potty trained and I sleep by myself (not that I wouldn't love sleeping in the bed, but my family has a no furniture policy). I'm a great judge of character and it will take me a little time to get used to a person. I am loyal and I listen well. I need an active family and I need to be part of the family. Although I am wonderful with the kids now, I am strong and I need to be understood, it would be best if I went to a family with older children. Please consider adding me to your family, I can bring you a lot of joy, and peace of mind! Call Lacee at 703-347-9305.

Blondie

Blondie was pulled from a kill shelter along with her little buddy Eddy who has already been adopted. She is a 60lb. beauty who is oh-so-sweet! Blondie is quite young, which shows in her playfulness and energy although she is very laid-back with humans. She likes to play fetch and be cuddled. Her fur is very soft and she loves to be petted. Because of her submissive nature, she plays very well with all dogs. Blondie walks beautifully on leash with her calm demeanor and stays very close to your side. Blondie would make an awesome hiking dog or running partner. She can jump very high so needs at least a 6 ft. fenced yard or invisible fencing. Blondie is a really smart dog and learns quickly. She only barks when she perceives a threat and she has a good, deep bark! A love of a dog, with her wiggle waggle greeting, Blondie is house trained, spayed and UTD on shots. Contact Beth at highhopehaven@yahoo.com or call 276-696-0133.

Brady

Brady is a 6-month-old Rottweiler mix. He's a typical rottie pup, very outgoing and friendly, very playful. Brady gets along well with other dogs but will not be good with cats. A fenced yard is strongly preferred along with prior Rottweiler experience. Brady will use a crate, but at this age I can't say that he's fully house-trained. Brady is smart and very trainable because he is very food motivated. He barks at anything unfamiliar, but is not aggressive. You can contact Brady's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions.

Brownie

Meet Brownie, a uniquely “compact” German Shepherd (mix). She is 49 pounds of petite charm. She is 2 years old and spayed. We got her from a shelter where she had been rescued as a stray. She is not good with cats, but would be good with most other dogs after an introductory period. She is very tolerant with kids but can't resist chasing, so older kids would be best. Brownie is calm and patient indoors and spirited outdoors and always ready to play in both. She can be exuberant and vocal when other dogs enter her territory so training would help calm her down. She is crate-trained and has no separation anxiety. Brownie is currently in obedience training and quickly learned “sit” and “down”, “roll over”, “leave it” and “stay”. She accepts her role as non-leader pack member with humans. Brownie is quite an athelete, she jumps like a deer and accompanies me on 3.5 mile runs with no problem. She had all shots and vet services in April 2009, including worming and first heartworm treatment. She has been microchipped and spayed. Paperwork is available for everything. Contact Joyce at 301-466-6894 or e-mail abmacarr@gmail.com.

Cara

Hi, my name is Cara but everyone calls me Care Bear. I am 6 years old, spayed, healthy and current on everything. I am a sweet loving girl who had a poor start in life. My ideal home is one with Shepherd experience and one where the humans know that dogs need time and respect. I am a very loving girl but I need time to build a relationship with you. I'd prefer a house that isn't too loud and like a more laid-back atmosphere. I am a really good girl who is very young at heart. I still act like a puppy. I love kids and am great with them. I know that once you meet me you will love me, so give me a chance, I'm here waiting to be taken to my new home. I also need a home with another dog that I can play with. For more information check out me at http://www.blossomhouse.blogspot.com or email my foster mom, Alex, at alexstrain77@aol.com.

Casey

Hi..My name is Casey. My foster mom found me at the shelter waiting patiently for someone to love me. I had 2 "cherry eyes". My foster mom just couldn't leave me there...so, lucky for me, she took me home. CSK9 fixed both my eyes and now everyone thinks I am wonderful!! I am a very active 11-month-old male Rottie. I love to play. I love to snuggle. I love to kiss. I love life!! I really really do!!. My previous home no longer had time for me and kept me outside. I hear I am skinny and need to gain weight. Being the great dog I am, I am happy to obey!! I am at 80 lbs and probably need at least another 15 or so. So, I eat everything they give me!!! I stole my mom's stuffed animals and she didn't like that so much. She says she is gonna get me my own toys!! Yay for me!! I get along very well with all my doggie brothers and sisters. I play lots and I play hard. I am learning house manners as my mom gets mad at me when I house surf. I wonder if I can be sneaky?? I know my mom loves me, but I want a real family of my own! I see other dogs with their own humans and would just love to have my own humans!! I think someone that knows how to exercise an energetic pup would probably be best for me because my mom says that I just never stop until late at night!! If you are interested in learning more about me or meeting me, you can contact my foster mom at glendad2@gmail.com. You will also need to fill out an application at http://www.csk9.org.

Chance

Chance is a big bear of a dog. He is 97 pounds and is a very solid, 3-year-old dog. He's very friendly, but he is lacking a bit of training. He jumps and he gets into stuff when he's bored. A companion dog would be helpful and he needs a very active person. Chance is big, friendly, and loving. He gets along well with other large dogs. Chance was a house dog at one time and would like to be again. If you have any questions you can contact Chance's foster home at vadogrescue@aol.com if you have any questions.

Cheyenne

Cheyenne is a 55 lb., long-haired GSD. She's 8 years old, spayed, HW negative and on HW preventive, and current on innoculations. She is obedient, responsive to her humans, good with children, loves attention, house-trained, doesn't run off, and affectionate, however Cheyenne isn't fond of other animals. For more information on Cheyenne or to adopt her, please contact Turner by e-mail at rgoins@hsc.wvu.edu or by phone at 304-864-4448 (home) or 304-290-8046 (cell).

Chili

Chili is an energetic boy who was picked up as a stray. He is a german shepherd mix and is estimated to be about 2 years old. He LOVES people and wants nothing more than to be with his humans. He has had some training, knows sit, down, and walks well on a leash. He is a very sweet boy who is praying for a Christmas miracle to get him out of the shelter and to find a family to love. Please contact Suffolk Animal Control at 757-514-7855 if you can help Chili.

Choley

Choley is one of the sweetest dogs I have ever been around. She is so cute, too! She has the coarse terrier hair and the fuzz on her face, but she has a more smooth body coat. she is stout and weighs around 34 pounds. This is her "full grown" weight. She is black with white markings. A sponsor has been paying her boarding and the humane society has provided her vetting. Choley has has all her shots, been dewormed, and has just been spayed, had her flea bath and is ready for a new forever home! She is excellent with children and she is estimated to be between 1-2 years of age. Contact eadavis10@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Cleo

Cleo is a hound/German Shepherd mix that is just over 2 years of age and weighs approximately 45 pounds of fitness. Cleo is wonderful with children and people. She can "get along" with cats. She likes to jump fences so a lead, electric fence, or 6-plus-foot fence is necessary for her safety. In a dog park, she plays well with like sized dogs, hesitant with larger dogs, and bossy "sometimes" to smaller dogs. She needs a loving home with an hour of exercise a day. Excellent on long trips. Not so good on a leash near dogs she is not familiar with. All her medical needs are current and she is in radiant health. Doesn't bark a lot and is protective when she should be. Call 202-744-3381 or e-mail lisgroff@aol.com.

Cola

Say hello to Cola, an Irish wolfhound/German Shepherd mix. Cola has come back to our rescue twice, through no fault of her own, because she has not been able to find a home with the firm leadership she needs. She is about 16 months old now, over 100 lbs., and she has all the stubbornness and free-thinking of both breeds with which she is mixed. If given the chance, she will run the household. Two times we have adopted her out to people who said they could handle the "nothing in life is free" approach to living with Cola, and two times she has come back because they really didn't have what it takes to manage her. She is a very sweet and loving dog, but she must have an owner who is a strong leader and is willing to commit to manage her with firm discipline and obedience, able to earn her respect, and challenge her very bright mind. She is not for the faint of heart! She will try to do things her way, and she needs a leader who doesn't let that happen. I can't stress that enough. She is also physically very strong, so you too must be physically strong to handle her. She requires a prong collar when being walked to have good control over her...without it, she can pull my 6'2", 200 pound husband! Since her previous placement, she has developed issues with female dogs, but seems to do well with all male dogs she meets. She does submit to the alpha female in our house, but any female who is middle ranking and not submissive brings out the challenger in her. We require Cola's permanent home to have German Shepherd, Rottweiler, or other large working breed experience, no children under the age of 12, a fenced yard, and not more than 6 hours home alone. She would do best with a young to middle-aged dog who enjoys wrestling and rough housing, and owners who understand how to supervise a multi-dog household. Cola loves and craves companionship, loves to ride in the car and take adventures, loves toys and occasional cuddling on the couch. She is a high energy dog who needs an active household. She is house-trained and crate-trained, spayed and current on all her vaccinations. If you'd like to consider her, then please do fill out an application available on our website on the "Available Dogs" page. If you would like more information, please e-mail her foster at glendad2@gmail.com . You can see videos of Cola at http://www.csk9.org/cola.

Daisy

I currently work at the 71st Animal Hospital in Fayetteville, NC, where I rescued a GSD about to be put down due to heartworm disease. I treated her and she is doing wonderfully! I have 4 dogs so I am not able to keep her and want her to go to a good home. Her name is Daisy and she is 1.5 years old. She has a great personality and a loving nature. She does great with people but needs work around other dogs. She came from a GSD home and had 2 male GSDs there. She isn't so great around females but definitely can be trained. She has been thru a lot of change so she needs tender loving care and lots of patience. My family lives in Virginia, so I am willing to travel to Richmond if someone wants to pick her up from there. Contact Angela by e-mail at theroanoker@yahoo.com if you have any questions.

Denver

I adopted Denver 8 years ago, so we think he is 10. He is very affectionate and well-mannered. He likes one quick walk each day and then is happy to sleep on the sofa or in front of the fireplace. He loves other dogs and people. I hate to adopt him out but I am moving into an apartment and cannot have a large dog. For more information, e-mail lpeckham@collegeboard.org.

Diesel

I am desperately seeking a new home for our loved pet Diesel. We got Diesel a little more than a year ago, and since then he has been a great friend to us both. However, recently my landlord has amended my lease, as it was up for renewal, and has put a weight restriction on dogs - he owns several condos in the same complex and had a bad experience with a previous tenant. He had given us 60 days to either find a new residence or find a new home for Diesel. I was confident that finding a new place would not be a problem in 60 days so I was not too worried, but now I am down to my last 2 weeks and what I'm finding is that I can not afford to move and stay in the area that I live, my son is seven and I do not want to change his school district, and that most of the apartments that accept larger dogs, in my area, have a breed restriction on the GSD or any mix of GSD. I am desperate to find a new home for Diesel and do not want to have to put him in the shelter, the thought of it makes me want to break down right now. He has been nothing but loyal and loving. If you have any questions, my phone number is 571-278-9846. E-mail Sharee at soposey@gmail.com if you are interested in meeting Diesel.

Dodger

Hi!! My name is Dodger, and I am a total love bug. I love to hang out on the sofa next to you, or in bed with you or on a dog bed while you are on the computer. Basically, I want to be wherever you are, but I do not have any sort of separation anxiety. My ideal home is one where I'd have a human who loved to lounge on the sofa or the bed with me. I really like women, too. I am such a sweet, sweet boy and I am great with other dogs and cats. My foster mom has a dog bed in every room just for me. Even though I am totally awesome and a love bug, I do still need a caregiver who will have rules and boundaries for me. My foot had to be amputated because it got hurt before the rescue got me and the mean people who had me let it "heal" without proper care so I was in pain. But now I am awesome and I can run real fast on my three legs. I am not handicap. I am handicapable. My ears also don't stand anymore because someone let me have constant infections that ate away at my cartilage, but I am all Shepherd. I am current on vaccines and preventative. I am neutered and microchipped. If you want to learn more about me go to http://www.blossomhouse.blogspot.com, and if I sound like we might be a match, please e-mail my foster mom Alex at alexstrain77@aol.com.

Fado

I am a very handsome, all-black German Shepherd working dog that loves people - especially children. I am almost four years old and came to the US from Germany, where I received extensive training two years ago. I will be devoted to a family that has ample time to work with me on training, or can help me do a job such as becoming a therapy dog, etc. I am very active and love going on walks and running with my family, and would enjoy and nice large back yard. I enjoy a stable routine and being able to be around people most of the day. If you have the time to dedicate to me, I will be your loyal friend and companion for life. E-mail Anne at apc0874@yahoo.com if you are interested in meeting Fado.

Isabella

Hi, my name is Isabella, but my family calls me "Bella" for short. I am a beautiful 3 year old German Shepherd that needs a loving family with a lot of love and attention to give me! I am currently in my original home with my family. There is another dog here that I love to play with. Within my family is also a 8-year-old little boy who I am a bit overprotective over. It's hard for him to have friends over because I don't let them play. My family has always known me as their "princess". I love to love and cuddle on the couch and I also LOVE to play catch and return the ball to my owner. I have EPI so I need my medications every day, but it has not stopped me from being a very happy pup. I just need some discipline and rules and I will be a perfect pup for my new owner. For questions or placement, please contact Lori at Doddette1@yahoo.com.

Jaye

Just look at this guy. Jaye is looking for a special family who will love him forever. Originally, he was found abandoned along a rural road in West Virginia with his brothers. Imagine who would just throw out a bunch of puppies on a rural road on a cold winter day in the mountains? Now, Jaye lost his second home. He thought that he had found a forever home but because he needs some basic obedience training, lots of exercise and a well structured home, Jaye found himself out on the street again! Jaye is approximately 60 pounds and still growing. He is currently 10 months old. He is a lab/shepherd mix who has tons of energy and likes people. Although he has lived with children now, it is recommended that he go to a home with adults only or older children. Because of his high energy level, Jaye might push down or scare younger children. He just doesn't realize he's a big boy. He is here in the DC area and looking for that special someone. Jaye does sometimes get anxious when he is left alone and thus is looking for someone who will be patient and help him out with his anxiety. With some extra exercise and an owner that will give him the structure that he needs, Jaye promises that he'll blossom into the kind of dog that will make you proud. In fact, that blossom has already begun to develop. He is in a foster home in the Northern Virginia area and absolutely loves his foster dad. He also loves swimming! Please consider adopting him today! The adoption fee for this dog is $250, which covers the cost of routine vet care, along with neutering. If you are interested in adopting Jaye, please contact Sean Whitaker at 703 889 7186 or email him at Seanwhitaker1@gmail.com.

Kai

My name is Susan, and I've been fostering a beautiful black sable GSD for a local rescue group four months now. I'm having a difficult time placing him, and now due to financial issues I am moving into a home w/two cats and two dogs. Kai is a pure-bred, neutered, house-trained, 2-year-old boy. He was living on 100 acres and roaming unattended and unneutered, and was being abused by a guy who drinks and kicked him around. When he first came to me, he had separation anxiety. I have a two room bedroom, and I nailed metal kiddie gates to my windows so he wouldn't try to get out and hurt himself. He has never been destructive, but didn't like being left. I worked with him on this, and he now knows that when I leave I will come back; he now settles comfortably on my bed while I'm gone, and my 30 lb. terrier mix stays in the room w/him. She is crated when I'm gone as she is destructive. I also have a cat, and Kai has a very high prey drive: he doesn't commit to actually hurting the cat, but hyper-focuses and chases, pins and whines constantly...he is compulsive about chasing the cat. He will also chase cars and squirrels. He will jump a four foot fence, but isn't a runner per se. He sniffs around and "reads his mail" but has excellent recall. The three times he jumped, he has stopped on a dime when I've called and promptly come running. The last time he actually jumped the fence to come back when called! He is excellent with my six-year-old son. Very tolerant and gentle. He plays very well with my terrier, but is showing aggression toward large dogs on lead. I'm unclear as to whether this is leash aggression or frustration, or if he feels protective of me (although he doesn't display leash aggression with people), but in any case I feel that he is a dominant dog. He is very soft and sensitive, and had fear issues w/men when he first came to me - he would rather flee than fight however, and shows no signs of fear aggression. We have done a lot of socialization, and now he approaches men to meet them and leans into them and shows very relaxed body language. I have done a lot of work to instill confidence in him and bring his self esteem back up. He has made significant progress, and each success he has has helped him to gain confidence. He is a couch potato inside. I have my hands full with him and the cat - none of us can relax, and it isn't fair to him or the cat. I either close the cat in the bedroom when I'm home, or have to constantly monitor them. It makes for a high stress level in my home. Kai is very special and dear to me: he is magnificent, but so much more than a handsome face! He obviously cannot go to a first time dog owner, and needs someone who knows the breed and understands how amazing he is despite his personality quirks. I have until February 16 to place him into either a foster or (better yet) a permanent home. He has been on Petfinder for a couple of months, and I've listed him on Craig's List, but the interested parties who have contacted me both had female shepherds and he was aggressive with both (one was an alpha and it was disaster, but the other was passive). Can you please help me to help him? He deserves the best I can do for him, but I'm really having a hard time placing him. Can someone foster him, or help me to find him a home? He cannot go to a shelter - all of our work would unravel, and he would absolutely fall apart in a shelter environment in my opinion. He would simply not be able to handle the confinement or stress levels there as he is too soft. Contact Susan on 804-338-1449.

Kelso

Kelso is a 6-year-old, female, german shepherd/carolina dog mix. She is tan with a black-and-tan tail that looks a lot like a husky's and black tipped ears. She's tall but skinny, about 55 lbs. She is a very smart dog, healthy and well-behaved. She's very low-maintainance, but loves long walks and lots of cuddling! Even at 6 years old, she's still a very playful dog and loves to play ball and shake her toys around! She would LOVE a yard to play in, but it's not a must as her current home does not have a yard. She loves older kids (older elementary aged) who can play with her, but small children make her nervous. Kelso should be the only pet in the household as she does not like cats and does not usually do well with other dogs, especially smaller dogs. She would also do well with a single person or couple without kids as long as there is someone around to love her! Kelso's current owners really love her but because of housing issues and babies on the way they have had to make this hard decision to find a better suited home for her. You would thoroughly enjoy having Kelso in your home! Please contact me at erin@erinjphoto.com if you have any questions.

Lizzie

Lizzie is a sweet, around 7 year old, small-medium sized, female German Shepherd, needing an understanding, loving forever home. She was rescued from a neglect situation and needs a home where she is the only dog. She LOVEs to go on walks - squeals, turns in circles, rolls on the floor, gives hand pats, when she anticipates a walk! She loves her meals and treats. She loves car rides. She wants to be the top dog. (She has, however, enjoyed playing with a 2-year old male in her multi-dog foster home.) I think she would do best in a home with an experienced dog person. She possibly needs a yard with a high fence. She is current on her shots and is heartworm negative. Contact: Jean Colison at 301-229-0520 or Susan Rich at 301-237-0265.

Luke

Hello there, my name is Luke, and I am an approximately two-year-old, adult, male, Treeing Walker Coonhound. My original owners were not the nicest people and then I was “rescued” by another person. He and his new wife now have other priorities and I sort of fell by the wayside. A kind neighbor has been looking out for me since August, 2008 and, when I got kicked by a horse and broke my pelvis, she brought me inside her home and is taking care of me as I recover. She is now my foster mom and has done much to improve my life. No one else ever let me live inside the house with them, so she is very special to me. Now that I am an “inside dog”, I am learning how to sleep on soft or warm surfaces and how to get along with other dogs. My foster mom is very impressed that I am learning quickly and am pretty good at adapting to the changes. She says that I have cleaned up nicely and am a very attractive young dog. My foster mom has had me neutered, vaccinated, wormed, microchipped, started on heartworm preventative and kept on flea/tick preventatives, too. She has been feeding me high-quality food so that I would heal. Now I am as good as new. The vet said that all I need is time and TLC right now. If you would like to know more about me, please contact my foster mom by e-mail at Heatherstone@wirefire.com. Her name is Shannon. In my new home, I will need secure fencing because I am a hound and, in days gone by, I used to run loose and chase anything that moved. I do well with other dogs and like kids, too. Basically, I am a sweet and lovable hound who is looking for someone to love me and scratch my ears. I should also tell you that I love to ride in the car and travel quietly.

Missy

Missy is an 8-year-old mix whose owner died recently and the family did not want to keep her. She is very sweet and loves attention; she always wants to give kisses. Missy is friendly to other dogs and cats, she is great with children but not infants. She is house-trained, although she doesn't like to be in crates. Missy is currently being cared for by a local animal hospital, but she often does not receive the attention a family would be able to give her. A new family willing to give her the attention she deserves would be just the thing Missy needs. Call Lexi on 540-207-0192 or e-mail her at grassfairy22553@aol.com.

Neela

Neela is about a year-and-a-half to 2-years-old, and very full of energy. She adores people and wants to be in the middle of everything. She likes to chase cats and small dogs. She would do better as as only dog. She's great with children but with her high energy levels, she'd be happier with older children. She can jump a four foot fence so she'd require a 6-foot privacy fence or daily walks on a leash. She walks well using a gentle leader (she's wearing a pink one in her picture). She knows how to do sit, down, focus, leave it and stay. She's crate-trained and rings a bell when she needs to go outside. She's spayed, up-to-date on all of her shots and is on monthly flea/tick and heartworm preventatives. Shelby

Though Shelby is "all girl," as one CFC staff person described her, she still enjoys romping with Troy, her male companion. Her high-energy personality is tempered by her eagerness to please and listen. Despite the fact that Shelby is just a little over a year old, she has already experienced a lot in her short life. Found wandering Fluvanna County with a too-tight collar attached to a cable, she was picked up by animal control and taken to the SPCA. When their facility became too full, Caring For Creatures volunteered to take in several dogs, including Shelby. She is a 43-pound Corgi/Shepherd mix, spayed, and up to date on vaccines. Shelby simply adores attention and will actually block the exit gate of her pen so that people can't leave! So...if you're planning to come meet her (and we hope you will), know that you might be staying a while!! Shelby is at Caring for Creatures, 352 Sanctuary Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963, (434) 842-2404 Fax: (434) 842-1308. http://www.caringforcreatures.com.

Starsky

Starsky is a sweet-natured dog with just a hint of shyness which makes him all that more lovable. He is such an all-around agreeable fella, he would get along in just about any household. While he likes to play and enjoys going on walks, he is just as content cuddling with someone or snoozing on a favorite bed. Starsky gets along fine with other dogs and would make a wonderful companion to another friendly canine. When visitors come to the sanctuary, he can be seen scurrying around for his kong toy to put in his mouth as that is one of his favorite things to do and he knows he looks mighty cute doing it! Starsky is about four and a half years old, neutered, and up to date on vaccines. He has a wonderful big heart and is looking for that special someone to share it with. Starsky is at Caring for Creatures, 352 Sanctuary Lane, Palmyra, VA 22963, (434) 842-2404 Fax: (434) 842-1308. http://www.caringforcreatures.com.

Thumper

Hi, my name is Thumper, and I am one of the sweetest puppies ever!! I am super friendly and love all dogs. I have lived with many dogs and I go to the dog park a lot. Any size, it doesn't matter. I am also great with kids and grown ups. I like grown ups who are affectionate, though, because I am. I am 8 months old and fully vetted. For more on me, please go to http://www.blossomhouse.blogspot.com or email my foster mom, Alex, at alexstrain77@aol.com. Sweet kisses are waiting for you!

Twiglet

Poor Twiglet has spent these last four months alone in a small pen at AC, pending court proceedings, but was just recently taken into foster care, pending her official freeing up for adoption by the end of January. Twiglet is the epitomy of cuteness - weighing probably about 20 lbs. She is a very curious dog, and despite her sad life, is very happy and upbeat! She gets along great with other dogs but is not safe around cats. She loves to snuggle up close to you, and gets very very upset and stressed when left alone, even if there is another dog in the room with her. Who can blame her, after being alone for so many months, not to mention, prior to being seized by AC, was kept in a shed and extremely underweight. Until she learns that she is not being abandoned when left alone for a short time, she would do best in a home where there is someone present during the days and evenings. A retired person would be perfect! Or if she could be taken into work, she would love that! Her foster mom takes her into work with her and she behaves there very well. Twiglet is still a little timid with strangers, but soon warms up to you. She is not yet spayed, but this will be done prior to her leaving the foster home, along with getting all necessary shots. Please contact Gina, 304-876-2718, for more information or to arrange to meet sweet little Twiglet.
